The crash happened at about 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 13, on I-84 Westbound near Entrance 56 ramp in East Hartford, according to Connecticut State Police.
While traveling at a high rate of speed, a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport struck a 2002 Toyota Carolla from behind, police said.
Authorities said the Hyundai rolled over and came to a rest on its roof in the left lane, and the Toyota spun out off the roadway and came to a rest on the shoulder.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as a 21-year-old woman from Chicopee, Massachusetts, was hospitalized with suspected serious injuries, police said.
Two passengers in the Toyota, a 24-year-old woman from Holyoke, Massachusetts, and a 26-year-old woman from Springfield, Massachusetts, were hospitalized with suspected minor injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 23-year-old Hartford man, was also hospitalized with suspected minor injuries, police reported.
The two vehicles were towed from the scene, authorities said.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
